Visiting the Taiwanese Mazu temple
Enter the shared 3D temple of Mazu, the Heavenly Holy Mother, and choose a ritual from the bottom toolbar.
Enter the temple
Open Mazu Temple in a browser with JavaScript and WebGL. The original 3D hall has 100 red-and-gold mats. Approaching a free mat moves the visitor into place and kneels automatically, without starting the three bows.
One click starts the ritual
Choose 拜拜 once to walk to the nearest available mat, kneel and perform three bows automatically. Afterwards the visitor remains kneeling; 再一次 repeats three bows without kneeling down again. Keep your intention in mind: no text input is needed.
Finish before choosing another action
Wait until the action finishes; selection, repeat and close stay locked throughout preparation and the ritual. After three bows you remain kneeling. Choosing another action, greeting or walking first stands the visitor up naturally. Then choose another action, use 再一次 to repeat, or 關閉 to close the panel.
Recognise the Chinese controls
These guides and the main introduction have 24 language versions. The ritual panels remain in Traditional Chinese: 拜拜 is prayer, 擲筊 moon blocks, 求籤 fortune sticks, 上香 incense and 燒紙錢 joss paper. 捐香油錢 is the free virtual donation-box offering.
